นักเดินทาง ท่องเที่ยวไปในโลกกว้าง เก็บเกี่ยวประสบการณ์ต่าง ๆ มาบอกเล่าสู่ผู้คน
เรื่องราวของนักเดินทาง บ้างก็สนุกสนาน บ้างก็ตื่นเต้น โลดโผน แต่นักเดินทางบางคนกลับมีเรื่องราวที่น่าเศร้าใจ..
ชายยากจนคนหนึ่งมีความใฝ่ฝันที่จะเดินทางข้ามมหาสมุทรอันกว้างใหญ่ไพศาล
เขาจึงอดทนทำงานหนัก และเก็บหอมรอมริบเงินทุกบาททุกสตางค์ เพื่อจะซื้อตั๋วโดยสารเรือเดินสมุทร
เป็นเวลานานทีเดียว กว่าที่เขาจะซื้อตั๋วโดยสารได้ ซึ่งราคาตั๋วเพียงใบเดียวนั้น ได้ทำให้เงินที่เขาเก็บออมมาตลอดทั้งชีวิต แทบจะหมดเกลี้ยง
ก่อนลงเรือ เขาจึงเตรียมเนยแข็ง และขนมปังเป็นเสบียงติดตัวไปด้วย
ในวันแรก ๆ ของการเดินทาง เขาอาศัยเนยแข็ง และขนมปังประทังความหิว อย่างไม่ลำบากยากเย็นเท่าไหร่นัก แต่พอนานวัน เนยของเขาก็เริ่มบูด ขนมปังก็แข็งกระด้าง
เขาต้องทนฝืนใจ กว่าจะกล้ำกลืนลงไปได้แต่ละคำ
ในขณะเดียวกัน เขาได้เฝ้ามองบริกร นำอาหารดีดี ไปเสิร์ฟยังห้องอาหารของเรือ
อาหารร้อน ๆ น่ารับประทาน ผ่านหน้าเขาไป จานแล้วจานเล่า วันแล้ววันเล่า โดยที่เขาไม่เคยได้ลิ้มรสชาติของมันเลย
เหลืออีกเพียงวันเดียว เรือก็จะถึงจุดหมายปลายทาง เนยบูด ๆ และขนมปังแห้ง ๆ ของเขาได้หมดลง ครั้นถึงเวลาอาหาร เขาเห็นบริกร ยกอาหารที่เพิ่งปรุงเสร็จใหม่ ๆ ออกมาจากครัว กลิ่นหอมของอาหารที่โชยมาแตะจมูก ทำให้ท้องไส้ของเขาปั่นป่วนยิ่งนัก
ในที่สุดเขาได้ตัดสินใจฉุดมือบริกรนั้นไว้ แล้วขอร้องว่า
“ได้โปรดเถิด ขออาหารผมบ้าง แล้วจะให้ผมทำอะไรตอบแทนก็ได้” บริกรมองหน้าชายผู้นั้นด้วยความประหลาดใจ แล้วถามว่า
“คุณไม่ได้ซื้อตั๋วโดยสารหรอกหรือครับ”
“ซื้อสิ” เขาตอบพร้อมแสดงตั๋วโดยสารให้บริการดู
และแล้วเขาก็ต้องตะลึงงัน เมื่อบริกรผู้นั้นบอกเขาว่า
“ค่าอาหารทั้งหมด ตลอดการเดินทางรวมอยู่ในค่าโดยสารแล้วครับ”
บางคนอาจจะนึกสงสาร แต่บางคนอาจจะนึกขบขันในเรื่องราวของนักเดินทางผู้นั้น
แต่จะมีใครเฉลียวใจบ้างว่า ชีวิตของเราเองก็ไม่อาจแตกต่างกับชายผู้นั้นเลย
ชีวิตเปรียบเสมือนการเดินทาง
ทุกชีวิตที่เกิดมาในโลกล้วนได้ลงทุนซื้อตั๋วเดินทางมาทั้งนั้น
โดยเฉพาะอย่างยิ่ง การได้เกิดเป็นมนุษย์ ยิ่งพิเศษสุดเหมือนได้ตั๋วเดินทางชั้นหนึ่ง ซึ่งพรั่งพร้อมด้วยสิทธิพิเศษตลอดการเดินทางทีเดียว
เราจึงได้จิตใจ และร่างกาย ที่สามารถทำความดี
และมีความสุขในสิ่งที่ดี ที่งาม นี่คือสิทธิพิเศษที่เราได้มาพร้อมกับความเป็นมนุษย์ เราต้องกล้าใช้สิทธิพิเศษเหล่านี้ กล้ายิ้ม กล้าพูด กล้าคิด กล้าทำให้สิ่งที่ดี กล้าที่จะมีความสุข กล้าที่จะมีชีวิตที่ดีงาม เพราะสิ่งเหล่านี้เป็นสิทธิของเราโดยชอบธรรม
อย่าลืมว่าสิทธิพิเศษนี้ รวมอยู่ในค่าโดยสารแล้ว เกิดเป็นคนทั้งที ถ้ามัวแต่ซึมเศร้า เอาแต่คิดเรื่องทุกข์ใจ ทำเรื่องร้อนใจทุกวี่วัน เราย่อมไม่แตกต่างกับนักเดินทางผู้น่าสงสาร ที่กล้ำฝืนใจอยู่กับเนยบูด ๆ และขนมปังที่แข็งกระด้าง ทั้งที่ตนเองมีสิทธิ์อิ่มหน่ำสำราญกับอาหารเลิศรสได้.

And then he was stunned. when the waiter told him
